📚 History & Origin
The first Thanksgiving is commonly traced to 1621 when Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared a harvest feast, though this wasn't called 'Thanksgiving' at the time. George Washington proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving in 1789, but it wasn't until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November. In 1941, Congress officially made Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November to avoid conflicts when November has five Thursdays.
