📚 History & Origin

Labor Day was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century during the height of the Industrial Revolution. The first Labor Day celebration was held on September 5, 1882, in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union. Oregon was the first state to make it an official holiday in 1887. It became a federal holiday in 1894, signed into law by President Grover Cleveland following the Pullman Strike. The holiday celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers and marks the unofficial end of summer.

🎊 Traditions & Celebrations

Americans celebrate Labor Day with parades honoring workers and unions, barbecues and picnics with family and friends, sports events, and end-of-summer sales. Many people take advantage of the three-day weekend for travel or outdoor activities. It's traditionally viewed as the last chance to enjoy summer activities before the fall season begins. Students typically return to school around this time, and fashion traditionally dictated not wearing white after Labor Day.
